John M. King
Sources:
Research Notes:
John M. King settled in Midland county Texas around 1880-1890.
He acquired 5,120 acres (8 sections) of land and started ranching.  He became a very successful rancher.
His brand was the "JK" with the letters J and K connected and no space between them.
When oil was discovered on his land he became very wealthy.

He donated land for a church and helped get it built.  He was also instrumental in getting two pastors to come and preach there --
the Reverends Green and Wood. The church was named after them: Greenwood Baptist Church.
A community sprang up around the church and is also called Greenwood.

There is a historical plaque in front of the old church stating some of this information with my grandfather being mentioned.

Good evening Tony,
This is Rick Shepherd. Below is the info on my family in Texas:
John M. King settled in Midland county Texas around 1880-1890.
He began buying land and started ranching. His brand was the JK connected as there was no space between the letters. He became a very successful rancher and when oil began being discovered he became very wealthy. He acquired 8 sections of land. As you probably know a section is 640 acres. He donated land for a church and helped get it built and was instrumental in getting two pastors to come and preach there. The Reverend’s Green and Wood hence the name of the church Greenwood Baptist. A community sprang up around the church and is also called Greenwood. There is a historical plaque in front of the old church stating some of this information with my grandfather being mentioned.
