Easter Cascarones Tradition

Ines Franco continues the cascarones tradition (continued from Events page)
cascarones with their friends that are not familiar with this tradition.  We made 2 dozen cascarones and 1 dozen regular hard boiled Easter eggs. Also, we have a lot of plastic eggs filled with candy. My husband thinks I go a little overboard when it comes to the holidays. I think he is right. Ha ha!

We had to make them since I have never seen any "for sale" here in MA. Have a great weekend!

Cheers, Ines

Recuerdo:
Cascarones:
When I was a about 5 years old while we were painting boiled eggs for Easter, I asked my dad if they used to color eggs in Terlingua when he was growing up.  He told me that they made cascarones.  They emptied eggs through a small hole at the end of the egg, washed them out, dried them, and filled them with home-made confetti.  Then on Easter they would try to catch someone by surprise and break a cascaron on their head.  With the help of my mother we had fun learning to make some "cascarones."
