B’nai Anusim Institute, a non-profit organization has partnered with Family Tree DNA in the creation of the Nuevo Reino de Leon Family Tree DNA Project. The purpose of the Nuevo Reino de Leon DNA project is to study the history of the vast area once known as the Nuevo Reino de Leon.
The territory of the Nuevo Reino de Leon was created in 1580 and included the present-day states of Coahuila, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas, as well as parts of Durango, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas in Mexico. In addition, the territory included parts of Texas and New Mexico in the present-day United States.
A large number of the settlers of the Nuevo Reino de Leon were Sephardic Anusim. If you have ancestors who were from this area, we invite you to join this project. For more information visit our project home page at: https://www.familytreedna.com/.../nuevo-reinode-leon/about
