El Indio, Presidio County, Texas

El Indio is located about 14 miles from the city of Presidio going northwest along the Rio Grande on Farm Road 170. According to Julia Cauble Smith writing in the Texas State Historical Association Handbook of Texas the place was started when John W. Spencer settled there in 1854. Julia also mentions that it has variously been known as Paloma Ranch, Spencer's Rancho, and Indo Ranch.
