The Ivey Family Story:
Owen Ivey had been born in North Carolina and had married in Georgia and continued moving southeast through Georgia. By 1850 he was farming in Baker County Georgia living in a $1,000 home of his own according to the 1850 Georgia Census with his wife and eleven of their children. Baker County is in the far southeastern corner of Georgia about 70 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida and 60 miles east of Dothan, Alabama.
Owen's third son, Alexander Capers Ivey, was born on February 8, 1835 in Washington County in northeast Georgia and died 81 years later on May 9, 1916 in Lometa, Lampasas, Texas. How did he go from Georgia to Lometa, Texas? The 1850 census shows him at age 13 living with his parents in Baker County Georgia. The 1880 Census finds him at age 45 residing with his 42 year old wife, Mary A. Ivey and their eight children including their two-month old twins Elizza and Edgar in Bastrop County, Texas where he was a farmer. His two older sons, Francis B. Ivey and Oscar C. Ivey, worked the farm with him.
