For more than 70 years the Museum of the Big Bend has been collecting and exhibiting artifacts of the vast Big Bend region. Encompassing the Davis Mountains and the borderlands of Mexico, the Big Bend has been inhabited for over 11,000 years. Throughout that time, four distinct cultures emerged and shaped the history and heritage of the region.
Our Mission The Mission of the Museum of the Big Bend is to collect, preserve, exhibit and interpret the materials that relate to the prehistory and history of the Big Bend of Texas and northern Mexico, with an awareness of the region’s cultural
diversity.

In 2006 the structure was completely renovated and new exhibits designed and installed. Located in the Emmett and Miriam McCoy building, the Museum opened in August 2007 and is the only native rock structure left on the Sul Ross State University campus
