Ayda Peña-Perez: Comments on the Reunion
The Martín Peña reunion was basically a repeat of the last two, except it was held in California.
There was an interesting introduction on friday, June 25th, when the four new additions to the newest Martín Peña generation were held up by their parents on the reception floor followed by a great applause. The sensation of seeing those new babies, born this year, while in the background was a huge display of family photos going back seven generations. Our past and our present.
Virgina Zepeda had several of the Demetris Peña family present.
Only two of my sisters, Olga and Josie were able to travel from Texas. My sister Nellie (Manuela, named after my maternal grandmother Manuelita Franco) has been very ill but she was there.
I look back at the Francisca Cano Lugo women and find them to be strong and intelligent women. We jokingly call them the "Proper Ladies" due to the fact that those very Catholic women married several times and had several children (some born after their husbands died … shu.u.u.u.) Sometimes, we like to believe that the documentation has wrong dates entered.

Sent: Friday, July 09, 2010 3:33 PM Subject: A Summary of the 3rd PCDL Family Reunion on June 25-27, 2010 in San Jose, CA. Hola! Whew! but Ajua!!! and now I am home with Patti and everything is well at home and with all my relatives and friends throughout the Lower 48, Hawaii, etc. |
Yesterday was a day of rest and today I am also resting, catching up on snail mail, financial matters, etc.
Money is not everything, but try going anywhere without your plastico fantastico and see how far you get...
I finally got home on Wednesday night, 7-7-2010. Home, after being on the road for 23 days and a 4,852 mile journey. While on this journey we were living out of suitcases, staying in various/sundry motels/hotels and numerous homes with some of the over 200 relatives/friends from Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, California, Oregon, Colorado, Hawaii and Arizona, etc., who attended the 3rd Biennial PCDL Reunion.
To all our relatives and friends on our 23-day saga, our entire family thanks you for your warm abrazos, besos, comidas, charlas, chismes, chistes y chirinolas de nuestera herencia (hugs, kisses, food, talks, gossip, jokes and trifles regarding our family heritage), just joking...
We are especially indebted to the organizers of the 3rd PCDL Biennial Reunion in San Jose, CA., Anita Raquel (Rachel) Pena Gutiterrez; her husband, GG; James Anthony Basurto and his wife Corina; and all their relatives and friends who made this reunion a resounding success.
There is already preliminary discussions on having the 4th PCDL Reunion in 2012 in CA, Hawaii or maybe a 4-7 day cruise somewhere in the Gulf or Pacific Ocean...
Hopefully, these three biennial reunions, 2006, 2008, 2010, have laid the ground work/foundation to continue the legacy of the PCDL families and also serve as a role model for other families to document their family histories. Remember, each family in God's Green Earth has a story and a wonderful history/legacy.
While on this 23 day Southwestern journey, we literally had very little downtime trying to keep up with my daughter-in-law's and wife's daunting itineraries from San Jose to La Jolla, California. As you know, I used my i-Phone to e-mail you a pictorial summary of our 23 day journey.
Also, today I got my first opportunity to view the F de T web site on our home laptop. Patti and I do not have the words to describe how much we appreciate your excellent, web master, F de T journalistic/IT expertise. The work of your colleagues and you just make our family histories come alive.
More importantly, the F de T web site is an excellent vehicle to grasp the attention of younger generations who are more attuned to web sites than the printed page. For example, my brother's grand kids have been reading and writing school reports on PCDL information found on the PCDL F d T web site. It is this younger generations in the PCDL and other families who will carry on our legacies if we leave an electronic/paper trail for them to follow...
The F de T web site can be accessed by clicking on: www.familiasdeterlingua.com
We urge all of you to view this web site and also for those who attended the CA PCDL reunion to e-mail Antonio at, [email protected] , the F de T web master, your reunion photos for uploading to the PCDL site within the F de T web site.
Antonio, one suggestion regarding the PCDL information on the F d T web site. The page labeled Martin Pena is not in sync with our known PCDL family history, as narrated in the historical novel essay on Martin LaRoche Pena and Manuel Prieto, as follows: Martin LaRoche Pena was married to Manuela Prieto. He did not have a second wife. Martin and Manuela had four sons: Juan, Manuel, Jr., Luis and Demetrio. Juan Pena married Mauricia Cano Duran Lugo and had ten children. Macario Pena was one of the children.
