1910 Census On April 15, 1910 Alexander was 35 years old and living with his wife Birdie who was 22 years old and his stepson Lee Hillger aged 3 years in Alpine, Texas in precinct 1 among scattered homes with no named streets. He owned his own home outright without a mortgage where he worked for himself as a blacksmith. The very next group of houses were on Alpine's 2nd Street. For both Alexander and Birdie this was their second marriage. Both Alexander and Birdie were born in Texas, but his parents are shown as being born in the United States with no state given. In the 1930 Census they are shown as being both born in Louisiana.
1918 WWI Draft Registration On September 12, 1918 he registered for the draft and indicated that he was still living in Alpine and working as a laborer for what appears to be A Mc Callum. It is not clear if he was still working as a blacksmith or not since the 1910 census showed him working as a blacksmith for himself.

1930 Census On April 16, 1930 Alexander was now 53 [55?] years old and single living in a place that he rented from Antonio Franco for $2 a month and was just a few feet from the Antonio Franco home. This was located in Precinct 2 West of Terlingua Creek Enumeration District 22-6.
1940 Census In 1935 and into 1940 Alexander continued renting his place from Antonio Franco but by 1940 he was paying $5 per month. The 1930 census shows him as "single" but the 1940 census shows him as "divorced."
