I want to tell Alejandro and Jason how sorry I am on Ayda's passing. I still can't believe that such a wonderful person is gone. Ayda was one of those people that would light up a room when she entered. She was a wonderful person, mother, sister and friend. When my father passed away in 1990, she made the trip from California to be with my family. That really meant a lot to me and my family. She will truly be missed. God bless her and her family. She is now a guardian angel to all of us. God bless you sweet Ayda.

Ayda was such a wonderful woman. She was a great help to me when my mother passed in 1965. I can't believe she is not with us any longer. We will see her again when our time comes. I will miss her so much.

Thanks for sending out a general announcement of the tragic death of our friend whom we knew as Ida.

My wife Cecily and I met her when she was married to a fellow lawyer Bob Perez and we visited them with our children in their home with their young son Jason, talking about our high school days and how our lives had changed since becoming lawyers.

Tragically, we lost Bob at an early age and I was honored to have been invited to eulogize him during services at St. Joseph's Cathedral.

We lost contact with Ida when she moved to Patterson but were not surprised to learn she continued to be a community activist in her new home. Ida always kept a fierce pride in her Texas roots.

My most recent contact with Jason was November, 2010 when I called him after reading an article in the San Jose Mercury News about how he, as a soccer coach, saved the life of a young player by using CPR training he learned as a paramedic. Co-incidentally, our daughter who is Jason's age had seen him just two weeks before that. Jason had two wonderful parents whom we greatly admired and, sadly, he has now lost them both.

Please convey to him and to Ida's family our condolences in this time of grief. We celebrate her memory and the fun times we had with her and Bob when we were all young parents.

Sincerely,
Fernando Zazueta

I remember Ida's charm and beauty when we were in high school. it was so nice to catch up with her during the high school reunions and Butz School Reunion in the early 2000s. My condolences to her family and the many friends who knew and loved her.

I am sorry Ida is gone. She was a good person and a beautiful girl. She had more good to do for the world but was taken too soon. By happenstance some years ago we sat by each other on a crowded airplane, and when we realized who each other was we had a great visit. I was returning from a fishing trip and she was coming home to FS for a visit. I got to meet Alejandro that day. May the peace of God comfort you. Terry Carpenter

We are all in shock. This was the last person I ever expected to pass away. We spoke every couple of months and we saw her in Ft. Stockton in July.

She flew all the way from California to see my mom, Magdalena (her aunt), for her birthday. She wanted to see her alive, because as she said, "you never know, this might be the last time I see her alive".... But I don't think we were thinking this would have happened. (My mom is 96).

Ayda was always a rock for us. She tried to help everyone in whatever way she could. She and Emiliano, her brother, were the closest of my cousins closest to my brother. She told me many stories about my brother that I never knew. She gave me advise when I needed it. Because of her I got my degree in Business. She will truly be missed by all of us.”

Ayda and I were always very close, we had lots of fun planning the PCDL family reunion, always making jokes of what we used to do when were young, thinking of Nellie and being there for each other, she was always looking after my daughter Sandra and family, when she was in Texas, she would go check on mom “Ita”. We were together when Nellie was sick and on the day Nellie was called to be with our Heavily Father , I do miss both her and Nellie so very much. She left us too soon… one great lady. Rest in Peace Ayda

2011 was a year I won't forget, three of my nieces went home to our Lord, Joann Espino, Nellie Pena Garcia, Ayda Pena Perez

Today, while researching our family ancestry November 9, 2014, I came to know Ida is in the loving arms of our Savior. My Cousins and I enjoyed precious moments in 2008 discussing our ancestry in Ida's home following a family reunion celebration in Fort Stockton, Texas.
May her legacy of loving kindness & hospitality never be forgotten.
