"A Wonderful Father, A Loving Husband, A Joy-filled Grandfather. A man of great, yet simple faith. A servant to his country and a servant to those in need. A leader, a historian, filled with optimism and generosity. His life seemed so simple, yet he had an impact on so many." Chris Wirt

To the Writ Family, You have my deepest condolences. Mr. Writ was very kind, and helped me with my family history. He was happy to share any information he had, and gave me ideas on how to further my search. May he now rest in peace, and may his family begin to heal. God Bless Mr. Writ, and his family.

I cannot ever repay what he has done for me. My life is so different from that of my parents and grandparents when they lived in the southern Brewster County. I was born right after they moved away. I would hear relatives wax nostalgic about that life unreachable to me. I would ask them about it and they would answer. But I couldn't get a feel for it. It was always beyond my grasp. But now that I am old I had given up on ever piercing the wall to know about the old days. Bob working with my cousin Louisa Franco Madrid and with memories and photos from my aunt Rita Franco Sanchez who died May 2011 gave me a good start with intellectual information. But them Bob took me to visit the ranches of my grandfathers and the settlement of La Coyota where my grandmother was born. Before I met Bob I had heard of La Coyota, but I didn't know that it even was a settlement. It could have been a turn in a road, a house or who knows what. But with their research I started to understand. Then when he took me there it gave me so much more insight. I felt that I had connected with a past that I thought most of my life was beyond my reach. New questions arose and he had answers. I still have questions. I don't want Bob to be gone. But it is not just to answer questions. He became my friend.

My deepest condolences to all his family & friends! I never got the chance to meet Mr. Wirt in person, but I felt as if he were family since he had so much information about us. Now that he's gone maybe my momma & daddy will have all the stories to tell him. I regret not meeting w/him when he was in Alpine last year!

Thank you Bob for communicating w/me & for documenting some of my insight to your contribution of the life in and people of Terlingua, TX! I will miss hearing from you & like Antonio mentioned...I don't want you to be gone either. Thank you for the info you were able to provide and the info you took from me! RIP

I was very saddened to hear of Bob's passing. He was tireless in helping descendants of families who lived in the Big Bend gather information about their antecendants. He helped me immensely in gathering information that I would use in my book. When I last spoke to him, he told me that my great-grandfather, Federico Villalba owned many sections of land from the Terlingua Ranch down to the town of Terlingua. It seems that, even in my absence, he would regularly made trips to Alpine to gather information that would him me in my research about my family. I know he did that for many other families. Thanks to Bob, much information was brought to light and now is a matter of record. Bob will be sorely missed. Peace, prayers and blessing to his family.

I want to thank you all for sharing your thoughts about my Dad. All of you were very important to him, and researching your families and the history of the Big Bend area was one of his proudest accomplishments. I feel like you are all family to me now because of what my Dad meant to you and what you meant to him. I read many of your comments at his memorial services and they were extremely touching. Please take peace in the thought that my Dad had a great life, spent a lot of it doing things he loved with people he loved, and had a positive impact on so many. All of the Familias de Terlingua were always close to his heart.

-Mike

My sympathy to all your family...I don't know if our families are related...I am new at this n have a fixed income, but I do my best using any free info I get my hands on...I know my ancestor, William/wilhelm Wuerth/Wirth/Wirt came from Germany mid to late 1700,s n settled in Perkasie, PA & Andrew Wirt Sr moved his fam to Montgomery Co in VA. My line is through his son, William Wirt n his wife, Mary Meacham. Could u email me so I can know if we r related? I don't want to a bother anyone...I had something bad happen to me that triggered a longing to search for ancestors n family members. Thank you for listening.

Laura, 8 years ago you posted that you might be a family member. At that time my reserch into the Wirt family had not gotten anywhere. Recently I have made a lot of breakthroughs. I found that many members of the family at many generational levels go by their middle name and the records often use only the first name which made it difficult to find relatives.

I have started the family tree for Bob Wirt and have connected it to a larger tree that is found in FamilySearch.com.

If you get an account with them (the accounts are free of charge) and go to https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/portrait/G8P9-LZF you will be in Bob's family tree and you can then follow the path up and see if you connect with them anywhere along the line.

If you go up to Bob's great great grandfather, David Miller Wirt (1832-1908) he wrote a history/genealogy of his family which is included as a "memory." Or go directly to https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/memories/L2XN-R4W read this information which include Towns, Counties and dates of locations for the family members as well as name changes of counties.

I hope you see this and it is of help to you

I was contact with him in the months before his passing. I am so grateful for all the generous time he spent gathering and sharing our history. His work will live on forever.
