Didn't wamt to comment on the first postmaster, but it was Richard Derrick. But I was not able to find that on your web site.

I wanted to comment on the question of whether or not Cipriano Hernandez should be considered the founder of Castolon. First of all, it was not even Castolon while Cipriano lived there, it was Santa Helena. It bacame Castolon when the post office was established in 1926. Second, Cipriano and his brother-in-law Leandro Silvis arrived in Santa Helena at the same time, so why should one be picked over the other as the "founder"?

My great grandfather was Leandro Silvas who worked for Mr. Wayne Cartledge for many years at the La Harmonia Store as well as my fathers aunt Magdalena Silvas.

My father is David Silvas and is currently 99 years of age. He lives in San Angelo, TX and is full of life. For his 99th birthday we visited Castolon and Santa Helena. Was very suprised to visit the vistors center there in Castolon and see all my fathers family history. Such an honor.

In answer to the question "Was Transito Ybarra (referring to the obituary section) related to Alvino Ybarra?" The answer is YES

Transito B. Ybarra (obit) was the son of Transito G. Ybarra and Marcelina Baeza.
Transito G. Ybarra was the son of Victor Ybarra and Jesus Garcia.

Victor and Alvino were brothers. Their parents were Marcial Ybarra and Teodora Galindo. They had five children that I know of: Sons Victor, Alvino and Jose (all of whom lived in the Castolon area) and daughters Blaza and Petra (I don't know if the daughters came to the U.S. The sons came over between 1912-1914.

Marcial Ybarra and Teodora Galindo were married in Ojinaga 10 Nov 1866.
Marcial's parents were Francisco Ybarra and Bartola Galindo.

But, Alvino Ybarra was NOT the first postmaster at Castolon.

As the youngest great-granddaughter of Cipriano Hernandez, I would like to state that “Historians” have been researching the family for several decades; and, with all due respect to the “legacy” that brought my great-grandfather to America (to preach the Word of God as a Missionary, who came from a very wealthy family from Spain), I am most certain that it is only most appropriate that I and all live out “Cipriano’s & Juanita’s Godly legacy.” Cipriano met his wife (who was an Italian Spanish Jew) in San Angelo and they migrated their way to the area (Cipriano was considered to be the wealthiest man in the area (he brought all his money from Spain and was able to build his ranching, commerce, banking and other ventures with said money from Spain)). Cipriano was a very, very wealthy devout Christian and family man that loved his entire family dearly and helped many start their own business venture as Christian businessmen/women. My Grandmother was married there and their dance was under the stars in front of the store (with a band); therefore, it is very special and holy ground for me and many...they owned most of the land/park.

Thank you for all your work, I hope to meet you. Christina M Hernandez
