Salomé Luján
"Both of my grandfathers, Quintín Mendoza and Salomé Luján, lived and worked in the mines in the 1890's when they were young men.
They both moved on, Quintín to Ft Davis and subsequently to Carlsbad in 1917 as an agriculture homesteader. In the early '30's, he sold his farm and mineral rights to the potash developers, and he relocated to homestead in the Queen area as the only Mohair goat rancher in the state.
Grandfather Salomé moved to the X Ranch in Kenter (Kent, Tex), where he worked as a Chuck wagon cook until just before he died in 1943.
Grandfather Quintín passed away in 1961, and both are buried in the Santa Catalina cemetery in Carlsbad, a memory lane place, like Terlingua's cemetery."
