Familias de Terlingua is very proud of Elizabeth Rascon who will soon be graduating from West Point. She is a granddaughter of Petra Gonzales who was born in Terlingua to Felix and Josefa Valenzuela.  Among her many accomplishments she has won many awards as an equestrian both in Texas before she went to West Point and also while at West Point.  Latina magagzine must be proud of her too.  Read about it in the West Point Web site.

Lots of lessons and hours of practice go in to these competitions.  On all these collegiate level events, the riders never even warm-up on the horses they ride in the competition.  The horses belong to the
local college where the competition takes place.  The riders literally hop on the horse for the first time and ride into the competition ring - one more step showing their level of horsemanship.

Admission to West Point Military Academy is open to all young men and women, and is extremely competitive. You will be evaluated on your academic, physical and leadership potential. Those candidates who are fully qualified receive appointments to the Academy.
The life of a cadet is demanding, but West Point has the most robust extracurricular activity program in the nation. In fact, the Princeton Review ranked West Point #3 in the nation in the category “More to Do on Campus.” On-campus facilities include a ski slope, skating rink, and golf course. Clubs include DJ club, orienteering, rock climbing, and Big Brother-Big Sister.
