Recuerdos:
María Isabel Pando-Juárez, daughter of Manuel Pando sends us the following recollections of her father's family.  "My father was a little boy when his father passed away.  I guess when that happened his older brothers Alfonso, Lupe, and Juan came to the states to find work so they could help support the family. My tía Élida was the oldest, and she stayed with my grandmother Marcela and the younger ones -- my father Manuel, Carlos, Leonardo, and my tía Martha.

When they saved enough, they had the whole family brought over. I guess that's when my father lost all contact with my grandfather Juan Pando's brothers and sisters. It wasn't until he was married and had a family of his own that he got in contact with
his tíos Carlos, Leonardo, and Felix and his tía Manuela.

Manuela has a daughter who lives in Odessa, Irma Caballero, whom we still see from time to time. If I'm not mistaken, my tía Martha (my dad's baby sister) knows and has talked with tío Leonard's daughter Maria Isabel. I do remember my dad talking about how she and I had the same name. He would say "Mija, you have a cousin, a much older cousin in Alpine who is my tío Leonard's daughter and has the same name as you."

I would love to know whatever happened to my great grandparents Atilano and Marcelina. My tía Martha told me here recently that my grandmother Marcela (grandpa Juan's wife) told her that Marcelina was a Spaniard. She was very light with colored eyes.

I loved seeing those old family pictures from Familias de Terlingua. I shared them with my sisters, brother, and my mother.  We all got choked up!! My father would have loved to have seen all of his family!

I also read about Julian Franco and Tino Franco and thought "had we known about them much sooner I know my dad would have gone looking for them and would've wanted to know them and talk with all of them!"

The information on this page was provided by María Isabel Pando-Juárez, daughter of Manuel Pando, in a comment submitted July 4, 2011 to Familias de Terlingua which she updated on July 7, 2011.
